IGCT is a relatively new semiconductor device in the thyristor family, which is replacing GTO in high-power applications, due to its superior characteristics with respect to those of GTO.
IGCT is a voltage controlled switch. This implies that a very small amount of power is required from the drive circuit to turn the device on and off.
IGCT has reverse voltage blocking capability.
