In fluid statics problems, the fluid is either at rest or moving as a rigid body (there is no relative motion between adjacent particles). In both instances, there is:
- No shearing stresses in the fluid
- Pressure is a major property, since the only forces that develop on the surfaces of the particles will be due to the pressure.
